Tips for Replanting After Spraying a Herbicide
Herbicides are a huge helper when you want to remove unwanted ornamentals, grasses and weeds from your lawn, flowerbeds and fencerows. Pulling weeds and digging out plants by hand is back-breaking work. Applying a herbicide lets you spray, walk away and come back later to replant. Each of our herbicides work a little differently and following the labels helps ensure their effectiveness during an array of conditions, like temperature, along with any grazing restrictions. Here are some tips for some of our favorite products to make sure you get optimal results.
RM18
RM18 is a fast-acting weed and grass killer. It starts to work on contact and won’t wash off once it enters the plant. To use it, simply spray the weeds and grasses you want to kill until thoroughly wet. Since RM18 is a total-control herbicide, make sure to shield all desirable plants from drift with a piece of cardboard or plastic. If you do accidentally spray a plant you didn’t intend to kill, rinse it off immediately with water or cut off the treated area. Wait one day before replanting all ornamental flowers, trees and shrubs. Lawn grasses, herbs, vegetables, and fruits may be planted three days after application.
Compare-N-Save Quick Acting Weed & Grass Killer
Compare-N-Save Quick Acting Weed & Grass Killer is a combination of two herbicides that kills the toughest kudzu, wild blackberry, poison ivy, poison oak, crabgrass and dandelions. Once sprayed, it is rainfast in 30 minutes and safe for pets and people after it is dried. All ornamental flowers, trees and shrubs may be planted one day after application. Lawn grasses, herbs, vegetables, and fruits may be planted three days after application. Do not spray when temperatures are above 90 degrees. Using Compare-N-Save Quick Acting Weed & Grass Killer when temperatures are above 90 degrees could damage your lawn.
BRUSHTOX
Unwanted brush and weeds can invade a pasture, taking over the nutritious grass your livestock depends on. BRUSHTOX controls woody plants and broad leaf weeds on rangeland and permanent grass pastures. It can be used along fence rows, non-irrigation ditch banks, industrial sites, non-crop areas, wildlife openings and grazed areas. And while established grasses are tolerant to BRUSHTOX, newly seeded grasses can be injured. After applying BRUSHTOX, wait a minimum of three weeks before reseeding the area. There are some grazing restrictions for BRUSHTOX, such as for lactating cows, so be sure to consult the label before allowing livestock back into the treated pasture.
Compare-N-Save Weed Killer for Lawns
Compare-N-Save Weed Killer for Lawns is specially formulated to only kill weeds, without harming the grass. It starts working immediately and is rainproof in one hour. It controls common weeds like dandelion, chickweed and lambsquarter, along with stubborn lawn weeds like creeping Jenny and ground ivy. For best results, don’t water your lawn within 24 hours after treatment and don’t spray when temperatures are above 90 degrees. Using Compare-N-Save Weed Killer for grass when temperatures are above 90 degrees could damage your lawn. If you do need to reseed, wait three to four weeks after using this product.
