Don’t Let Fire Ants Ruin Your Summer Fun

Celebrating outdoors is the epitome of summer fun. It doesn’t get better than picnics, pool parties, fireworks and just playing on the lawn. And usually with summer celebrations, the more the merrier unless those uninvited guests are fire ants.

Fire ants are reddish to black and although they’re not native to the United States, they’ve been here since the early 1900s, spreading throughout most of the southeastern United States. The problem with these pesky pests is they bite, leaving painful, red blisters and welts. Disturb their mound with the lawnmower and fire ants will defend it aggressively.

Fire ants dwell in all of the places we love to congregate in the summer like lawns, parks, pastures, vegetable fields and orchards. The best way to get rid of them is to treat them where they live with Compare-N-Save Fire Ant Killer Granules.

Kill Fire Ants At The Mound

Experts agree, treating the fire ant mound is the best option to eliminate them from your lawn and garden. Pour a half-cup of our granular product directly onto each mound. Forcefully drench the mound with one to two gallons of water. You need to pour the water with enough force to break the apex of the mound so the insecticide flows into the ants’ tunnels, preventing them from re-establishing. As with any of our products, we recommend reading the label thoroughly before application.

You can also eliminate fire ants by applying Compare-N-Save Indoor/Outdoor Insecticide to the mounds. Apply a broadcast application in the morning or evening when temperatures are between 65 and 80 degrees. Cover the mound and a one-foot diameter around the mound with one to two gallons of finished spray. See the complete label for details. This powerful insecticide, containing 7.9% Bifenthrin, eliminates not only fire ants but carpenter ants.

Take Precautions When Applying

Compare-N-Save Fire Ant Killer works best in cooler weather when temperatures range between 65 to 80 degrees. You may have to apply it in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are at their lowest. But don’t apply it when it is raining.

As Compare-N-Save Fire Ant Killer is a powerful insecticide, don’t re-use the measurement device for anything else. That is, if you borrow a measuring cup from your kitchen, don’t reuse for food preparation, even after washing. We recommend buying a measuring cup specifically for Compare-N-Save Fire Ant Killer and labeling it as such to avoid any confusion.

Fire Ant Resistance

Southerners have been fighting fire ants since they arrived in the United States. Because of this, some insects are known to develop resistance to products used repeatedly for control. As the development of resistance cannot be predicted, the use of this product should conform to resistance management strategies established for your area. Consult your local or state pest management authorities for details.

If resistance to this product develops in your area, this product, or other products with a similar mode of action, may not provide adequate control. If poor performance cannot be attributed to improper application or extreme weather conditions, a resistant strain of insects may be present. If you experience difficulty controlling the fire ants you wish to eliminate and suspect that resistance is a reasonable cause, immediately consult your local company representative or pest management advisor for the best alternative method of control for your area.
